Overview

The Port Operations and Bunkering Services are provided by Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd., S.P. Satria Sdn Bhd. and S.P. Satria Logistics Sdn. Bhd. These Group subsidiaries support one another to provide a synergistic and more efficient and effective port management and bunkering services. Sabah Ports Sdn. Bhd. has been dynamically upgrading and streamlining all ports operations to meet the global market needs, from the acquisition of the latest cargo handling equipment, training of resources to sound financial management ever since it took over from Sabah Ports Authority in 2004.

Today Sabah Ports Sdn. Bhd. offers a wide spectrum of professional port services as follows:
• Berth facilities
• Cargo and container handling facilities
• Labour provision
• Pilotage and towage
• Storage facilities

Sabah Ports Sdn. Bhd. manages 8 ports in Sabah which are located in various strategic locations. Besides containers, dry bulk cargo and general cargo, Sabah Ports Sdn. Bhd also handles a substantial amount of liquid cargo, mainly palm oil. Plans are underway to rationalize the port operations statewide through hubbing to create economies of scale. Sapangar Bay Container Port, which has taken over the container operations from Kota Kinabalu Port, is positioned as the premier transshipment hub for the BIMP – EAGA region. Kota Kinabalu Port will remain as a general cargo port.

Sapangar Bay Oil Terminal is a dedicated terminal for the handling of refined petroleum products and liquid chemical serving the West Coast of Sabah. The East Coast Ports of Sandakan, Tawau and Lahad Datu handle palm oil and related products such as fertilizer and palm kernel, in addition to containers and general cargo. Kunak Port handles palm oil as well as palm kernel exports.

S.P. Satria Sdn. Bhd. specializes in the supply and maintenance of cargo handling equipment, including the latest and sophisticated Gottwald Mobile Harbour Cranes. S.P. Satria Logistic Sdn Bhd. was set up recently in 2006 to provide bunkering services (fuel, fresh water and lubricants), waste oil management and oil spill recovery. All these services support the port management at all the key ports in Sabah and provide an added value to the port operations.
